    Minutes:

    The chair welcomed all to the meeting and introductions took place.

    Apologies were received from Councillors Kieran Heakin, Daniel Meredith and Jean Hornby

    Minutes:

    Application CG/05/17 - Taylor Park Environmental Improvements
    Environmental Management submitted an application on behalf of the Friends of Taylor Park to fund landscaping improvements consisting of the provision of four litter bins to reduce the litter problems in the park and the installation of 80m of knee rail fencing to prevent unauthorised access.  Members were informed the total cost of the project is £3,920 and an amount of £750 has been committed to the project from Norden Ward Fund.
    Grant required: £3,170
    Decision:  Members agreed to support this application and recommended
    an allocation of £2,500.

    CG/06/17 - Rochdale Township in Bloom 2018
    Members were informed that Rochdale in 2018 will be competing in the North West In Bloom regional competition and also the National In Bloom Competition as the North West representative in the Small City category, which is the first time that Rochdale has competed on the national stage. The group have submitted an application for £2,500 to purchase six planters and bedding plants to enhance the judging route.
    Grant required: £2,500
    Decision:  Members agreed to support the application and recommended an allocation of £2,500.

    CG/07/17 - Improving Green Spaces
    Deeplish Community Centre have submitted an application to fund improvements to the green spaces inside the grounds of the community centre for public and community groups to access and make use of.  This project aims to encourage participants’ involvement, engagement and learning about the outdoor environment with opportunities to interact with different community members from diverse backgrounds to increase their knowledge and participation.  Service users and community members will be involved in planting flowers and shrubs in the front area of Hare Street Park to create attractive floral displays and enhance the outlook from the centre.

    Grant required: £1,300

    Decision: Members agreed to support the application and recommended an allocation of £1,300.

    CG/08/17 - Spotland Primary School Sensory Garden
    Representatives from Spotland Primary School informed Members of their plans to develop the garden areas around the school into a sensory garden which would stimulate the senses courtesy of plants and materials that engage the senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.  These types of gardens are beneficial to children and adults, especially those with sensory processing issues, including autism and other disabilities.  The total cost of the project is £3,000 and an amount of £1,000 has been committed to the project from Spotland & Falinge Ward Fund.
    Grant required: £2,000
    Decision: Members agreed to support the application and recommended an allocation of £2,000

    CG/09/17 - Environmental Awareness & Cleaner Neighbourhood
    In the absence of the applicant, Habibul Ahad, Councillor Ali Ahmed presented the application to Members.  The project is designed to build on the work already carried out to raise environmental awareness amongst local residents and help maintain a cleaner neighbourhood in the Wardleworth area.  This project will involve awareness generating sessions covering various topics, cleaning rounds and educational visits to recycling centres.
    Grant required: £1,414
