    Application CG/04/18 - Norden WI Bench
    An application was presented on behalf of the Norden Women’s Institute to fund a commemorative 20th anniversary bench to be provided to the community for their use.  The bench will be located outside the library which is used as a community hub.  The bench will be constructed using metal slats, providing a low-level risk of vandalism through fire.  Members were informed the total cost of the project is £1,330 and an amount of £530 has already been committed to the project from Norden Women’s Institute’s previous fundraising efforts.
    Grant required: £800
    Decision: Members agreed to support this application with an allocation of £800.

    Application CG/05/18 – Norden Interpretation Boards
    Members were informed that the Norden Community Trust wished to install two interpretation boards on key intersections of the Rights Of Way network within the Norden Ward to help indicate features to enable more individuals and user groups to explore the natural environment.  Members were advised the total cost of the project is £2,000 and an amount of £500 has already been committed to the project from the Norden Ward Fund.
    Grant required: £1,500
    Decision: Members agreed to defer this application.  More details are required concerning the land ownership/agreement from United Utilities to allow use of land, an evaluation of any ongoing potential maintenance costs/responsibility of and also more detail on the content to be displayed within the boards.

    Application CG/07/18 – Springfield Park Decommission Pool
    Members were informed that these works would remove a derelict feature within the park which is making the area look untidy and uncared for.  The works form part of a wider schedule of works by Environmental Management Services in consultation with the Friends of Springfield Park and Ward Councillors to bring the park up to the same standard as other Town parks and will also assist a Green Flag award submission next year.
    Grant required: £2,160
    Decision: Members agreed to support this application with an allocation of £2,160.

    Application CG/08/18 - Springfield Park Floral Displays
    Environmental Management Services are working with Ward Councillors and the Friends group to try to bring Springfield Park up to the same standard as other Town parks such as Broadfield Park and Queen’s Park.  Financial support is requested to improve floral displays and landscaping including works to enlarge the existing bedding with structural planting, topping up shrub beds, weed spraying, rotavating and seeding.
    Grant required: £880
    Decision: Members agreed to support this application with an allocation of £880.

    Application CG/09/18 – In Bloom Planting Schemes
    Various In Bloom schemes require investment to top up the considerable investment Environmental Management Services have put into the following schemes:

    ·           Oldham Road Gyratory - extra structural planting to complement the bedding display.

    ·           Oldham Road gap site – top-up planting, strip out stand of self-seeded small trees/shrubs, soil over and grass seed.

    ·           Manchester Road/Drake Street sunburst flower bed and Town Centre planters - topping up and installing new plants.
