Councillor Donna Martin
Donna has been a councillor since 1997 and currently represents Middleton East Ward where she has lived for over 30 years.
Following A Levels in Politics, Law and Sociology she went on to obtain an honours degree at Manchester Polytechnic in Politics and Sociology, a post graduate diploma in Counselling/Psychotherapy from Manchester University and a CIM Marketing Diploma.
Cabinet member for Children’s Services since 2011, Donna is passionate about improving the lives of children and young people and families across the borough.
Donna has worked in further education for over 25 years. Her varied roles have included researcher for Manchester Institute of Popular Culture, manager of a student counselling welfare service and senior roles involving New Deal, Excellence Challenge and Aim Higher. She recently retired as marketing manager of Hopwood Hall College.
She has also helped establish ‘Friends’ groups, improving facilities in parks and making the environment cleaner and greener.
Donna lives with her husband Michael and their dog Archie. They have 2 grown up daughters and 3 grandchildren. In her limited spare time she enjoys walking, reading and loves all kinds of music.
